Melbourne Recital Centre – ARM

Melbourne Theatre Company gets a coll new home.
When we visited Melbourne last September, this building was still at its infancy. Though we only saw her from afar, we could already tell that she was to become something special. Home to the Melbourne Theatre Company, this building was honoured in this year's Victorian Architecture Awards, taking the highest honours in public architecture, urban design, interior design as well as the 2009 Victorian Architecture Medal for revitalizing the formerly neglected Southbank. According to the jury, “The robust sculptural facades have already become iconic and the changes to traffic and pedestrian patterns at an urban level have transformed the area into an active domain.” This is one building that reminded us that architecture can actually make a difference like some of the LED shopping malls that are sprouting all over Singapore.
